I really loved this! So much inspiration! And, as an Italian, I can assure you I made a lentil ragù just like that! :D (I'll have to share the recipe with you, I'm eager to know what you think about it, but, alas! it has dried mushrooms in it!)

Well, that makes me feel better about my bastardized bolognese, thank you Giulia! Would love to try your recipe as I'm a huge fan of mushrooms in all forms. (My mum and sister hate them, but they're wrong, obviously.)

I really enjoyed this Claire. Such an important topic to think about!

'How to enjoy eating together when you eat such different things' ....

Aw, thank you. Food has this weird ability to make people incredibly defensive. (Not talking about my parents here, just random internet strangers weighing in on what other people eat.) It's such a strange, powerful, deeply emotive thing.

Absolutely Claire. Random internet strangers should only be kind. Spread the word x

What a fine repast to share with family. 10/10! I love, frankly, sharing toast with a variety of toppings. We had a similar breakfast at my parents on boxing day. My mom's homemade crab apple jelly, thinly sliced cheese and lovely bread. The tart and potatoes is a gorgeous idea, something I would enthusiastically feed to my vegan stepson and his partner (I'd partake with equal enthusiasm). I do believe the adage that good food unites us. When I first moved to Vancouver Island, I was obsessed with a certain vegetarian restaurant (Rebar, under its original owners, had icon status). I decided, on a whim, to bring my parents there for breakfast. My dad is a committed meat and potatoes guy. He won't eat pasta. He's hardcore. But my parents do appreciate tasty food (mom is an adroit cook). Rebar did all these amazing pancakes, cornmeal and orange, buckwheat, etc, with these gorgeous fruit compotes made in house. And their omelettes and tofu scrambles were legendary. My parents loved it and dad, to my surprise, and to his credit, did not complain about the absence of bacon or sausage on the plate. My parents, subsequently, frequented Rebar on their own, so besotted were they with the fare. They also loved it when I took them to a Vietnamese restaurant. I hope you will write a cookbook Claire. Love your ideas and the way you use your garden bounty. xx

Wow, that restaurant sounds amazing! Good on your parents for going with an open mind. Love that they went back on their own.

Great ideas! And thanks for reminding me how fantastic Greek lemon potatoes are. Been a while since I made some and must remedy that.

This is great! My family has so many dietary restrictions and allergies, it is always tricky to find something we can all eat, but you have threaded the needle beautifully here! I also have to put in a good word for Ikea Plant Balls... so delicious!

Great post. I have vegan friends and she is an amazing cook! I really struggle when it’s my turn to cook, because I am very much an omnivore! I’m thinking the bolognaise with some fresh (egg free) pasta for our next meal together! I’m with your mum - I don’t like tofu. Although I do like beans! Thankyou for giving me some inspiration- oh and the tart also sounded amazing!

Oh and also, I find miso a great sub for Parmesan cheese!
